The Bar W in Cazadero

Along a winding creek you’ll find the tranquility of Austin Creek in a 2 acre redwood forest.

Cabin Information

Outside Information

Located on two flat acres next to a creek, the house sits in the middle of a redwood grove. A tree house sits atop an old stump and has a hidden entrance. If you want to camp there are plenty of nooks and crannies to pitch a tent.

Our favorite reading corner is the hammock hidden behind a tree overlooking the creek. Nearby is the outdoor fire pit, with strings of fairy lights surrounding it. The hot tub easily seats 6 (the capacity seems to be N+1) and is in its own grove on its own deck in view of the creek. Redwood fairy rings dot the property.

Large decks on the front and back of the house provide plenty of seating and a lovely place for a morning cup of coffee, or a late afternoon glass of wine. The back deck has tables and seating for groups up to about 14. A covered porch is perfect for creek-watching in any weather. Two grills are available for long summer nights.

Steps lead down to the large rocky creek bar. Austin Creek flows past, often with a swimming hole, though in this mega-drought the creek dries up by mid-summer. Plenty of rocks are available for skipping.

Inside Information

The main house is all on one level with three bedrooms, two baths, a full kitchen, laundry facilities, and a living room with a fireplace and stove. The house is insulated and warmed by a new heat pump. Wifi is available.

The primary bedroom has a California King bed and an attached bathroom.

The second bedroom has two queen beds. It also hosts the linen closet.

The third bedroom currently has a day bed with trundle bed, as well as a third single bed available. It is primarily set up as a library and office.

The smaller cabin (or Love Shack) is a single room office with french doors opening onto a private deck overlooking the creek. It has a fold out double futon, reading corner, desk and cold water sink.

About the Area

Just 5 miles from the coast at Jenner, hiking along the beach or bluffs is easily accessible. Cazadero, Monte Rio and Duncans Mills are all even closer, just a few miles away, with groceries and shops. The Russian River can be accessed from various points, and kayaks can be rented in both Monte Rio and Jenner. Armstrong Redwoods State Park is a great location for education and hiking in Guerneville. We keep a library of hikes, maps and adventure and nature books.

The back porch holds a double futon as well as a porch swing and barbecue. If you’re really crowded there are two large sofas in the living room that get rave reviews.

About the Bar W

Originally purchased in 1996 by a group of friends wanting to give themselves and their families a regular place to commune with nature, the Bar W is now owned by one family and is available only to select family and friends.

It is a special place where people often remark how time slows down, and a weekend away can feel like a real vacation.
